God-Instilled Father

My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth ~ Proverbs 3:11-2

Think to a father. Your father, a figure, the Holy Father. Now, think of something you have learned from them. Now. How did you learn it?

I have had the blessing of having a few fatherly figures in my life- My “papa,” my dad, and my step-dad Darrell.

They all have a knack for cars which is a knack that I still haven’t picked up yet. Nonetheless, I have learned a lot about cars, mowers, and machinery from them. Recently, I was thinking about how they taught me and how one day I will teach others.
When something goes wrong (e.g., car breaks down) I remember at first, I would look out the window and watch as they work.

But then I would end up on the porch watching.

Then, I am beside the car.

And then the next time they would say “hold this” and hand me a ratchet.

And then next… they would say “hold this while I tighten this.” It was only following this that the Holy Grail of father-son moments appears.

They ask, “Hey, can you tighten that for me?”

It seems instilled in a father to progressively teach something to children. I asked myself, why is that?

Probably because their father did the same thing. It is the 9th Wonder of the World; the God-instilled father teaching method. The most beautiful of these moments is when a father figure teaches of God. 

There is a story in the book of 1 Kings of a man named Jehonadab dedicated to purifying Israel of idols (2 Kings 10:15-23). Implicitly, he births a family that many generations later is found adhering to the Godly living modeled by Jehondaab (Jeremiah 35:6-19).

God instills fathers with the desire to model life right. Godly fathers are expected to model holiness unto the Lord as well, and it does not take any complicated plans!
