Britain, America, and the Body of Christ

For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself ~ Philippians 3:20-21

In July, there is a spark of patriotism that circulates around the 4th of July. America, home of the brave, celebrates! It is also a point to remember an odd truth. 

At one point America was essentially Britain, just across the Atlantic. We had the same government, accents, identities, and taxes. When the time had come to separate violently, there was a pretty clean break. 

In 1776 we took on an entirely different identity. There were the same people, buildings, and clothes, but we had become something entirely new. This didn’t happen as a nation per say. It took 13 individual states (practically small countries) to come together to achieve a common purpose.

If you told an American in 1790 that they were just a sect or a part of Britain, you would likely get tarred and feathered.
This possibly could be an American way of teaching about the beauty of the Body of Christ, the church, and how something so beautiful could come from something as rotten as our fleshly bodies. We have been rescued from vileness although we are still waiting for the glory to come!
