The tune, “God Save the King/Queen,” is a popular tune in sheet music and was used by many nations. In America, its history can be traced to Samuel F. Smith (1808-1895).
In 1832, he put words to what is now known as “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee” which has become an unofficial American anthem. There are many wonderful positive aspects of our great land and give praise to God for all of His past blessings.
Combined with a general doctrinal aspect, there is now a stronger orientation in our churches on “defending freedom.”
Through flag waving and military memorials, rather than our ministry in Christ. The Bible says that the source of our freedom comes from our deliverance in Christ, not from a country.
Now I am proud to live in the greatest country on Earth but like Jesus said in Luke 2:49,
“Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?”
So let the Church be the Church and the government be the government (Matthew 22:21).
Saying this, the focus of these new lyrics to the same popular tune of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” is on the “liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free” (Galatians 5:1). Our liberty in Christ made us free from the Law, sin, and death.
As ye have received Him, walk in Him (Colossians 2:6). Carry this musical message as you go.
