Poet W.H. Davies once wrote a dialogue between Pleasure and Joy.

In this dialogue he writes,

“Now shall I walk or shall I ride?”

‘Ride,’ Pleasure said;

‘Walk,’ Joy replied.”

It is important and interesting to know that the man who wrote this dialogue was a hobo. 

A hobo is a travelling worker who often could be seen, particularly during the Great Depression, riding a train, town to town looking for work. 

This hobo’s choice of travel is an interesting one. 

He opts for the difficult one and not the easiest one. 

As Christians, this is asked of us. 

When we accept Christ’s invitation of salvation and peace, ironically, we choose a path contrary to the logic of the World. 

We choose to continuously fight fleshly desires and carnality. 

With this, we choose to live spiritually minded and walk by the Spirit of Christ. By His Spirit, we no longer have to gratify the desires of the flesh (Galatians 5:16-25).

Saying this, when abiding in Him and He abides in us (1 John 2:6; 1 John 2:27), it would be hard to consider us a spiritual hobo; although, the World might just see it that way.

We are grounded and positioned in the family of God (Ephesians 2:19-22), taking the scenic walk home.
