Life

“What I value in life is quality rather then quantity” — Albert Einstein

Growing up, I admittingly did not believe two recurring quotes I heard from then adults in my life. The two were: “Time speeds up when you get older” (Now I am older), and “Everyone I know is dying” (A bit of hyperbole but feels very true).

The older I get, the less I try to blink, because then I am much, much, much older with every blink.

The older I get the more people I knew and shared fond memories with are dying or nearing it.

What amazes me about this age induced phenomena however are that it generally takes death and near-death experiences for life to be valued as it truly is, costly. Relatives are called more, people become a bit more generous for time, you look twice before crossing a road.

It makes me wonder what it would take for us to treat life as costly always. Would it take the death of the most important person who ever existed, say… God?

Amazingly enough, you do not have to wonder. God did in fact die for you, so you remember to live! Jesus stands out from all other accounts as He willingly went to the Cross, was tortured, and died to appease Holy standard of God on your behalf!

Inheriting the Spirit which stands as an eternal reminder that through death comes life, simply takes one small task of eternal importance.

Belief.

Simply believe that Jesus Christ died, was buried, and rose again on your behalf and this new life is yours (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

From here, this is what Ephesians calls redeeming the time (Ephesians 5:16-17). This means to live with true purpose. Live like your mortal clock is ticking down and your eternal clock is ticking up.

Because after all, time speeds up, everyone lives, but not everyone dies. That is, if you believe.
