Whatcha Waiting on Neil?

Neil deGrasse Tyson, a famous agnostic astrophysicist, is famously quoted as saying, “The good thing about science is that it’s true whether or not you believe in it.”

Although many regard Tyson as an athiest, he himself attempts to distance himself from athiests in conduct, indicating at times he willing to believe anything that can be proven.

Yet, his ultimate authority by the quote above is science. Which proves much less than we give it credit for. Especially in his prospective field of astrophysics. This field is always changing, always evolving, and begins with an unprovable theory such as the Big Bang Theory.

Science is often utilized more to disprove than to prove anything, and by disproving, the human race moves forward. But yet, it is noted by acclaimed neuroscientist Sharon Dirckx Ph.D.,

“Science… could never disprove God. ‘That would be like scientists figuring out how all the programming works on Facebook and then declaring, ‘So this disproves the existence of Mark Zuckerberg.’” ~ Seeing the Supernatural by Lee Strobel

And of all people, Tyson knows much about the physical, material world and the programming works by which it moves, but yet holds the view of Yuri Gagarin, the first human in space, “I looked and looked but I didn’t see God.”

The truth of the matter is that not seeing something does not mean that it does not see you. Gravity existed for thousands of years before it was “discovered.” There are species of snakes often “discovered” through genetic analysis, and although they slither about us all the time, they get proclaimed as “new.” Or on the topic of snakes, if you were to walk through the Amazon rainforest, you may be surprised as a snake lunges from the tree and implants a lethal dose of venom into your jugular vein. Not seeing it did not mean it was not there.

Like the electron, which to this day, no one has clearly seen, is believed to be real because of its innumerable effects, God stands as a reality within far greater respects.

“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” ~ Romans 1:20

So, like the many theories which often prance about as Gospel, proof at times may be the wrong thing to seek. The question must be asked, “What is there that I can not disprove?”

Of all non disprovable matters, God stands as the father of all good ones.

So it begs the question: “Whatcha waiting on Neil?”
