The Perfect Christmas

We live in a day in age whereas we have the ability to manufacture the near “perfect” Christmas.

The perfect Christmas. There are movies depicting it. We dream of experiencing just one of them!

But alas, we wake up on December 26th and want more.

The Greeks had a word for “perfect” and it typically carries much more weight than what we attribute.

The word “teleios” typically describes something perfect as something that has come to an end.

The problem with this is, as Christians we stretch the birth out year after year. But there was really only one true Christmas.

And forgive me for saying this, but the Christmas birth was not a perfect event. It was filled with tumult and it was only an inauguration of Christ’s earthly life.

It could not be teleios until something was finished. Christ gave a good indication of when this would be when he said, well – “It is finished (John 19:30).”

This and the subsequent resurrection gave us a perfect Christmas and if it is finished, how could there be another perfect Christmas (1 Corinthians 15:21)? Expecting one may be a let down!

So let us reflect, and pardon the cliche, the reason for the season and think to “the perfect Christmas.”
