“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son” ~ Colossians 1:13
A term has increasingly come to my attention recently and I am trying to make sense of it. The term is the “Post-Christian World.” Many non-religious individuals and even some notable Christians have stated we are now living in a “post-Christian world.”
This term doesn’t necessarily imply that Christianity no longer reigns as the most notable world religion or that there is a mass exodus from churches, although this may be true in some places. It implies that Christian morals no longer dominate the civil arena of politics and societal actions.
I am conflicted. In the US, particularly in America, I see notable divisions and a great moral decline. However, it is possibly the optimist in me that makes me say, “We have seen divisions and decline before.” Divisions and declines do not supersede Christ’s ability to still be powerful in the life of believers.
These “Post-Christian” enthusiasts must give caution to promoting such a transition if such a transition could exist. The force they promote does have quite a foothold, ruling on this Earth now, but let us never forget that, as the old hymn states, “This is my Father’s world.” Even today, no power is set in place without His say and ok (Romans 13). Additionally, at the end of history, there is no such thing as a post-Christian world. After all, our God will step foot on this Earth and make all things Christian, for lack of better words.
Let this devotional stand as a testament to the mighty God that saves the sinner, and enables the Christian. The Post-Christian world is a mockery of the faith of many and whoever denotes historic ages that mock God’s rule is in desperate need of Him themselves. Nonetheless, by His grace and mercy, He is eager to save.
Just believe that all the work necessary for salvation has already been accomplished when Jesus Christ willingly went to the Cross, bore our sins, died, and rose again for salvation (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Now the Christian is ordained to live in a “Post-Satan” world and for His purposes. Free as free can be (2 Corinthians 3:17).
