“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all” ~ Oscar Wilde
When I was a younger Christian, I remember that many of my Bible studies were guided by the many questions that I had. A question would develop in my mind and then I would quickly refer to my Bible to find answers.
Some of these questions included: “Where does God come from?” “Is there unforgivable sin?” and…
“Are there more Christians or non-Christians?”
This last question eventually developed into the question, “are there more people in Heaven or Hell?” Now as a more mature Christian this answer seems obvious looking at the condition of the world. Scripture also affirms this often (John 3:36).
Saying this, although surely out of context, I find above quote relatable. Life, that is real life, is provided by Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross and His victory over the grace. But yet, the beautiful free gift of grace is rejected more so than it is acceptable (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9). More people just exist and very few live.
It is my prayer that these numbers flip flop, but nevertheless, we can live on mission to see more people live. This change will come through the work of the Holy Spirit and consistent sharing of the Truth. So many people exist and do not know the difference between being on Earth and living on Earth. And few more know what it means to live for Heaven. Life is gifted to us by the life of the Son, Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Just believe and live.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” ~ Romans 6:23
