Here is a little story about happiness.
Recently, I got stuck behind an Amazon van. The back and side of this van read the following.
“Warning: contents of van may cause happiness.”
I read it once. I read it twice. I read it a third time. And I thought to myself- “That’s it? That is what causes happiness? That is what feeds the American consumer’s soul?”
The contents of a package?
I thought to the likely thousands of Amazon packages my wife has ordered and how from none of those packages came forth happiness. At least any that wasn’t fleeting.
But then, I thought to a package that can. A packet of flesh. Flesh purely intertwined with the Spirit of God. 100% man. 100% God.
This package was opened by Roman oppressors, a brutal whip, and a spear. Not so that we can be happy. But even more so that our joy may be made complete. (1 John 1:4).
And we as Christians say that by his stripes we are healed (1 Peter 2:24). We are made happy.
And by His resurrection, we may have joy. Which is an sense of peace not swayed by circumstance and acknowledgment that we do not have to be happy, nonetheless we must learn to be content.
So I reckon there is such a package that can bring endless joy when opened.
