Bedrock

16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist” ~ Colossians 1:16-17

Forget about all the trouble of the world. For a moment, empty all the thoughts of war, poverty, pestilence, and icky things that resides on Earth. Take it all away.

Now think of the most beautiful place on Earth. Let your mind dwell on the natural beauty of mountains, open fields, natural landmarks, and the open seas. The world is gorgeous.

But why should we ever be surprised by this? The world was created by our incredible God, who set space into motion to perfectly sustain the world. On top of a nickel and iron core and molten rock, we find the foundations of the Earth- Bedrock.

Bed rock is the foundational stone by which all of Earth’s beauty sits, dirt piles up, and the the beauty we see stands (1 Corinthians 3:11). Without the bed rock, the world around us would have nothing to lay on and nothing in the world would consist.

In much the same way, Christ is the bedrock of our world and of our faith.

By this I mean, without Jesus the world would spin into chaos. Or more accurately, it would never exist.

Without Jesus, our faith would be meaningless and misplaced.

Christ is the bedrock of everything and by Him the world exists (Isaiah 28:16; Ephesians 2:20). Without Him, nothing would exist. Nothing could be held.

Include us when life gets difficult. When we can’t find beauty in the world. But because Christ is our bedrock, we can be held-

Always. Forever and ever.
