Run Behind Momma

In the 1990’s there was a show that many a momma adored titled, “Kids Say the Darndest Things.” I have found this to be true in my young life. Children see the world through a lens quite different from that of an older, seasoned, and frankly bitter adult.

I have also found, at least with relatives, that children can also be far more wrathful but more likely to get away with it to.

I’ll tell you my secret childhood plot.

Whenever I felt that a sibling was deserving of an attack (typically from being attacked myself), I would execute the attack only under certain conditions. Me being the younger sibling, my attack would only be carried out in proximity to my mother.

I would swiftly swipe my brother and then run behind my mother as my brother chased me. I would yell, “Momma, Wesley is trying to hit me!” And then peer from behind the safety of my mother. My brother and I would lock eyes and his gaze would tell me, “Wait till she leaves.”

You are probably thinking this is pretty insidious, but don’t you lie. I know you did it too.

As my mom reads this, I’m sure she will smirk. As God reads my heart, He encourages this spiritually. Like God’s edifying proclamation in Isaiah 41:10, He will strengthen us and uphold us. He has given us a shield, against the fiery arrows of the enemy (Ephesians 6:16). This shield is faith! Leaning from behind God and peering at the evil spirits of this world, He even gives us the Sword of the Spirit, to swing from behind the cover of His grace (Ephesians 6:17).

Behind God, you are wholly safe (2 Corinthians 12:9). When we are weak, He is strong. Run behind God!
