What Are You An Authority On?

At times I look to Google and various sources to what questions are trending and what writing prompts that I should pursue. Recently upon doing so, I noticed the question,

“What are you an authority on?”

A few things popped into my mind immediately. “I am an authority on many things! Star Trek, some obscure history topics, and other nerdy things!”

But then I think to some of the last words spoken by Jesus before His ascension into Heaven that details a position He will have long after He come backs. “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth” (Matthew 28:18).

It’s a powerful comprehensive claim that time and time again, humanity thinks they can usurp in government positions and fancy degrees. But even the most elite of human position is given that position from God as easily as a participation trophy which is given to a child in last place.

This does not mean defy these people or insult them. Romans 13:1 reads, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” Obviously we still have an ear to give them as well. Nonetheless, it does mean our orders come first from Christ and Christ alone. This echoes the affirmation of the apostles in Acts 5:29.

“We ought to obey God rather than men.”

In a day where “fact checkers” seem to swoon authority into their hands, Christian know this. The Bible is not outdated, antiquated, or flawed. The Words of that Book are the Words of Authority from that God of Authority who we worship whom all authority is given. Live free in this truth today!
