Follow Peace; Pursue Holiness

“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord” ~ Hebrews 12:14

As Christians, there are things we know are readily available at request from our Heavenly Father. These include: joy, love, grace ,acceptance, and so much more.

But what of peace? We often see peace as something that follows something. Not often do we see peace as something we must follow ourselves, as something illusive.

But on more than one occasion, various Biblical authors describe peace as something that must be followed and captured!

In Romans 14:19, the apostle Paul teaches the Church to “therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.”

When following something or someone, the key is to never let that entity get out of sight. When you lose sight of something, it may be hard to find it again. To an extent, we may just need to “be careful for nothing” and pray with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6-7). The Word tells us this is one way to rope in peace, which God readily offers in seeking.

But we know that praying in struggle is not always an easy task. Paul must have understood this as he earlier said in Romans, “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” The phrase “if it be possible,” indicates the possibility it may not be possible sometimes. This should not deter the Christian from following however.

Our pursuit of holy living should never be an ending pursuit. The Word instructs us to,

“Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it” (Psalm 34:14).

God bless!
