Desire…
“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” ~ Corrie ten Boom
Who is your god/God?
***
Notice when reading, I wrote a lowercase “g” and an uppercase “G.” I want to be very broad in this question.
Whoever reads this, I am asking for honesty. Honesty is the foundation of a fair trial.
Are you an atheist? Very well. Think precisely what that means.
Agnostic? What exactly are you searching for? The point of the agnostic is to find something. Perhaps the known God?
Or maybe, just maybe, you tell yourself, “I care nothing of a god.” I understand. Life is preoccupying. But what do you think about when it is not?
Every person lives their day to day lives as a quilt. A quilt of desires. At least of these quilted fibers are seen at every moment of life.
What do you desire?
Famed lay theologian, C.S. Lewis, was an atheist notable for denying the things of God. Until God, showed Him how undeniable His case was. And C.S. Lewis desired the undeniable!
Reflecting on his salvation he claims,
“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.”
I ask once again, “what do you desire?”
A desire usually is something we want to ascertain.
So, what of God? We can make gods of many things, but only one God can keep us from falling and preserve us blameless until eternity meets us in a sudden moment (Jude 24). Assuming one believes in eternity.
What if they don’t believe? I would suggest this person recognizes “the only wise God” (25). Who stands outside of time and has made Himself abundantly obvious to the humankind, with never one contradiction (Isaiah 57:15).
Who else can say the same? Your desires speak abundantly clear to the “something more” that Jesus Christ provides (Romans 1:16; Romans 8:16-17; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
You can find a lot in what you desire.
“Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God“ (Proverbs 2:3-5)
