C. Austin Miles (1868-1946) in 1911 wrote words and music to the familiar hymn, “Dwelling in Beulah Land.” He was prolific in his writing of 398 hymns, including the music to 8.

We have retained the tune with the entire chorus, although the title and much of the song was written to reflect doctrine for the church today. The original hymn would have you living on a mountain, drinking from a fountain, and eating manna all while dwelling beneath the sky in “Beulah Land,” which is a term found in Isaiah 62:4, describing a literal land on the Earth that God promised to Israel.

Whereas the Body of Christ was promised an eternal hope in Heavenly places as we read in Titus 1:2,

“In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.”

Along with this verse, we see this hope in Ephesians 2:6 when spoken, “And hath raised us together and made us sit together in Heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”

God has quickened you in Christ, made you sit in Christ, will inherit you through Christ, and your place is in Heaven (in Christ). It is not our job to keep our resurrection, because God will see it through. Nothing separates your place because of God’s grace and His love.

Romans 8:32 states, “He spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”

1.Far away the noise of strife upon my ear is falling, then I know the sins of Earth beset on every hand;

Doubt and fear and things of Earth in vain to me are calling, none of these shall move me,

By grace I stand!

2.Through the tribulations grow, and mean may come to hate me, I am safely sheltered by the love of just on man;

Since He spared not His own Son, then who can separate me, I am saved forever,

By grace I stand!

3.Life on Earth is but a shadow, evil days are needy, few good things will ever last while enemies withstand’

Wealth is empty, pain is plenty, death is always greedy, But I live rejoicing,

By grace I stand!

Chorus: I’m living in the Spirit, with a place up in the sky, I’m walking with a power that never shall run dry;

O yes, I’m sing of the glory that’s waiting when I die where I’ll be dwelling,

By grace I stand!
