The Persistence of a Hungry Ant!

Lately, my wife and I have noticed a sudden influx of ants surrounding our kitchen sink.

Mind you, we try our hardest to keep a clean kitchen…

So you can imagine the frustration as we wage war on these tiny vernon, seeking out their main headquarters so we can flank them!

But then, one day as I ran surveillance in this household game of search and destroy, I spotted it. A single line of ants marching from the back door, through the dining room, into our kitchen to plant their flag.

I had not thought to look there. They were not coming in from the kitchen or anywhere even remotely close.

Their hunger drove them to drastic measures. It drove them to march across the cold, tile floor and brave our footsteps, so that they could provide for their colony.

Oh what faith would be like, to be like that of an ant! To know what must be done, and persistently pursue it.

It brought to mind the words of the Apostle Paul after he discussed the fruit by which we must bear in the Spirit.

That we must strive to sow in the Spirit and not the flesh. But then he writes,

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:9-10).

With that I say, God give me the persistent faith of a hungry ant!

God bless!
