I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. ~ Psalm 91:2

On March 17th, 2003, due to multiple diplomatic tensions between NATO countries and Iraq, diplomatic relations between Iraq and the United States ended. With them, thousands of NATO troops were deployed Iraqi regime headed by Saddam Hussein. With these soldiers, wallet sized cards containing Psalm 91 were deployed as well. Whether Christian or not, these were carried by many soldiers as a reminder of God’s protection.

Psalm 91 was believed to be written by Moses and carries strong admiration to the faithfulness of God to sustain him. Within it, we see Moses proclaiming that God is his protection and that despite dreadful circumstances, God is near.

As soldiers within the army of God, we can be assured through this captivating Psalm that God likewise will preserve us in times of difficulty (2 Timothy 2:3-4). Snares, pestilence, and wickedness had no power in the refuge of the Almighty. He secures our soul steadfast in Him and is mighty enough to thwart the arrows of our soul’s adversary (Ephesians 6:16). In Him, we can possess an immovable faith.
