The Cynical Realist

Many have once heard in some form or another,

“I am not cynical, I am a realist.”

Often, I found it true that many people cannot distinguish between the two.

So what does that leave them with? A disappointing reality to live in?

Comedian George Carlin once stated,

“Scratch any cynic and you will find a disappointed idealist.”

Our fleshly desires make cynicism an easy resort to instead of

It’s counterpart-

Optimistic hope.

As Christians, we can take a subjective view of a broken world and then say,

“There is a solution.”

Christ sent His Son into a broken world to overcome the world, which most assuredly He did (John 16:33).

By His Gospel He saves us and preserves us from death and unto Heaven (Galatians 1:4-5). This finished work does more than just save us from death. It makes living for tomorrow possible. It makes life vibrant.

Our entire outlook for life can be radically transformed to where we “rejoice in hope, [are] patient in tribulation, and continue instant in prayer” (Romans 12:12).

There is an old hymn titled “Because He lives” which chorus blares,

“Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.

Because He lives, All fear is gone.

Because I know He holds the future,

And life is worth the living just because He lives.”

Cynicism is a reasonable answer to an unfulfilled life without Christ because truly, such a reality is depressing.

But it does not need to be that way. Christ has come and He offers a new, better reality.

It all begins simply, with belief (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

God bless!
