It may be a joy or a drudgery. This all depends on the person and the project.
Sometimes, it may just be a matter of finances. Big projects demand big cash.
Other times, it could just be a matter of energy expenditure. Remodeling is usually a side venture to the normal strains of life.
And still yet, for some, you have everything in place to start a project; however, you just do not know where to start.
Take a room for example. There is an empty room within your home. Almost literally, a blank canvas.
It could be a home theater, a workout room, a study, or just another bedroom.
Where do you start?
From a background in construction and remodeling I would suggest taking care of the big things first.
If it needs cleaning, clean the walls and the floors first before you dust the corners.
Painting? Paint the majority of the walls first and then touch the intricate details.
It may come to a surprise to you that this is how our faith operates as well.
No believer’s faith begins in the fine tuning and details. Biblically, the only way it can begin is at the end of self.
Christ’s Gospel is our beginning and ultimately it should be the most seen aspect in the finish as well.
From here, we add. We grow. There comes some subtraction of ungodliness that would ultimately make our room tacky or out of sorts. But nonetheless, the Gospel is shining bright and displayed at the forefront.
As Christians, the room of our soul is primed by the Holy Spirit and covered by Christ’s redemptive grace. He is our foundation and the finished product consists of His work.
In 1 Corinthians 3:11, Paul teaches that,
“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
Furthermore, the new creation formed through our salvation remains forever transformed as suitable dwelling for the Holy Spirit!
Later in 1 Corinthians we find that the “body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own (6:19).”
As Christians, this signifies that our soul is not merely primed and formed for and by Christ but we also find that release the property title back to God, our creator and sustainer.
So allow God to sustain you today, remodeling you inside and out with a fresh soul that carries over gracefully in eternity with God.
In closing we read 2 Corinthians 5:1-2; 6-8,
“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven…
Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
