Sometimes life’s greatest comforts come only from being in life’s most uncomfortable positions.
Like being snuggled up in bed on a really cold day.
There is no sensation like it.
Our focus on the cold (Cold being an absence of heat), makes us appreciate the heat all the more.
Spiritually, this is true as well. As Christians, we do not lose the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. He indwells within us. Sealed as a letter.
Nonetheless, moments prevail in life because tragedy strikes or our sin leaves us with regrets we wish we never had.
Be Encouraged!
These moments are where we appreciate the joy and grace of Christ Jesus even more. We are reminded in these situations that Jesus Christ is an active God, heavily involved in our lives.
Paul knows full well what this means as reflects on the great Comforter in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. The Scripture reads, “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
Another church leader who had a grasp on the Spiritual temperatures of our souls is James.
In James 1:2-3, James teaches his congregation of the benefits of the “cold” and pressure. He encourages them by saying,
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.”
So be encouraged! There is much to gain in our cold days.
Furthermore, our cold days are not only an opportunity for a warm blanket. They are a reminder that there will be warmer days.
The most temperate of these days however being the day we are able to see our Savior face to face.
“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18).
