My Redeemer Lives

My Redeemer lives. 

We often hear this in songs of praise and adoration of God. 

But Biblically, is there such a beautiful proclamation?

To no surprise, this is a Biblical proclamation; however, it may not be where you would expect.

Job 19:25 reads, 

“For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.”

Surprised? It was not shouted in a fiery sermon by John, Peter, Paul, or any other of the persecuted in Christ. 

It was proclaimed by Job within deep anguish thousands of years before Christ’s death and resurrection. 

Continue on past this proclamation and we see that he affirms this truth after a series of plagues has left his body rancid. This would not distract him from the truth that he served a God who is alive.

He continues,

“And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.”

This makes me ponder the question for myself.

What circumstances in my life may distract from the focal point of our faith which is that our Redeemer lives? 

Is it physical ailments? Family strife? Sheer unbelief? 

I know our circumstances are not the same as Job; however, let us join together in unity and have a perspective that proclaims,

“And though”. 

Because though the world may fall apart, our Redeemer still lives and is on the throne. 

Our precious hope of glory. 

But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification (Romans 4:24-25).
