Happy Mother’s Day!

Have you all ever seen the movie “The Land Before Time”?

I strongly recommend it!

That is unless you have a strange aversion to bawling your eyes out. If you need a cathartic cry this is the movie to watch.

This movie is about a group of young cartoon dinosaurs, joining together as they are separated from their families. This occurs as they make their way to the luscious “Great Valley”!

So obviously this a very complex story… Anyways, the reason I bring up this movie is because of one particular scene. The character, Little Foot, is suddenly attacked and chased by a “Sharp Tooth” dinosaur. Little Foot’s mother steps in and thus commences a great battle. As the Sharp Tooth falls, you can’t help but sigh in relief as our beloved dinosaur friends are seemingly safe.

That is until you realize that Little Foot’s mother is greatly injured and cannot complete their journey. As her baby Little Foot begs her to get up, his Mother gently replies, “I’ll be with you. Even if you can’t see me. Little foot let your heart guide you. It whispers”.

Isn’t a mother’s love just like that?

It is like their love is imprinted on our hearts. It guides us even when we can’t see it. It is a lot like God’s love.

In 1 John 3:16, the Apostle John states,

“By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.”

It’s almost like a cycle.

The love that God instills in a mother, is passed on to her child and then so on. God’s love and a mothers love have something in common. It is a sacrificial love.

My mother spent many early mornings helping me finish last minute school projects and late nights caring for me when my tummy hurt. Long days of work never stop her from asking about my life and being invested with my day.

She is kind, smart, silly, caring, sweet, funny, and powerful. She has the gentleness of a sheep, but the fury of a lioness. She is my confidant, my role model, my safe place, and most importantly, my mother. Because she wasn’t just born a mother. Everyday, she chooses to be my mother and that is one of the greatest demonstrations of God’s love.

So today and everyday thank your mother, biological or “adopted”. Thank you momma for being the most wonderful woman in the world and for sharing God’s love with me everyday. Happy Mother’s day! 💓

With love, Hallie
